Drought and the Death of Granganimeo

    Soon after, a very severe drought occured in the Secotan land.  There had been droughts before in the region, but definitely not this extreme.  The once very fertile soil dried up.  The corn all started to dry and shrivel up.  The Secota people were worried.  To try to distract them from thinking of all their troubles, Lane showed them things like magnifying glasses and spyglasses.  They soon forgot about them.  They were just too caught up in the drought. 

    Then very soon the Secotan began to die very rapidly.  Neither side knew that they had no resistence to European germs and diseases.  Even things such as the common cold sometimes proved to be very dangerous.

    Then something very drastic occured: Granganimeo died.  His brother--Pemisipan--came from the capital of Secota to Roanoke.  Pemisipan was the leader of the Secota.
