London

London's style was always on the move.

Women wore fancy dresses, some were quite strange.  Men wore French breechers.

There were even laws passed defining the appropriate clothing styles for each social class.

Competition occured in kinds of food served, writing poetry, playing musical instruments, or even having a pet.

Women absolutely adored having their little lap dogs with them at all times.  A popular saying there was, "Love me, love my dog."

LOVE ME, LOVE MY DOG.

Many, many things were sold there including gloves, hats, saddles, linens, toys and a lot more.

FACT:  Butchers' stalls along the Thames River sold more meat in one day than the citizens of Portugal ate in a whole year.

There were also many cruel things that happened to animals there such as fights witht them where they always keep them and where they lock them up.  Overall London was very crowded, had a lot of crimes, and probably smelled because of all the waste lying around.

We are not sure where exactly John White fit into all of this although there are some suggestions in his letters and clothing that he could have been wealthy as well as a religious man.  We do know, however, that he was very interested in travel.  He was not born in London, however.

Probably the most we know about this mysterious man was that he really wanted nothing to do with Raleigh's militay idea to build a fort.
