Spain Attacks

It's July 19th.  The Spanish armada can be seen coming out of the sea.  It is massive with 130 of its warships.  This is the navy of the world.  The thing everyone has been talking about.  It's huge and impossible to defeat.  It has 2,630 cannons equipped on its ships and are manned with 20,000 soldiers and around 8,000 sailors coming to finally take England.  It looks like it is over for the English.  How could their small navy ever take one this amazing?

Before they came, Raleigh had talked with the queen about their own navy.  He had an idea on how to make it possible to take Spain and reverse the attack.  They made their ships much more steamlined.  Unlike the Spanish ships, England's were swift and could circle around the bulky warships from Spain.  They had amazing agility and speed.  Raleigh was commanded to add his own ship into the battle.  His ship was of great work and led the English navy on toward the Spanish Armada.

The battle must have been very ferocious...but in the end England finally won!  They had beat the king of the sea just by altering the way of fighting and sailing.  It is sad although to say that most of the Spanish soldiers and sailors died.  It was a great loss for Spain but what a terrific achievement for England.  Nobody expected them to win--most expected them to lose terribly.  But with Raleigh's idea, England was saved and the threat from Spain was gone.

Even though the only reason they won was because of Raleigh's adjustments to the navy, he seemed to lose a lot of popularity.  The queen didn't like him as she had before and was now actually making Walsingham her newest favorite.  Why?
