The Finding of Roanoke--The Perfect Place

The English first arrived in Secotan land in the summer of 1584.  Two ships had been sent by Sir Walter Raleigh--one captained by Amadas and the other by a man named Barlowe.  Simon Fernandez was a Portuguese pilot that accompanied them.  They traveled along the "Skeleton Coast" for 120 miles and all of the crew aboard were afraid as they knew of the great danger that the coast had brung before they came.

Fernandez found a channel that they bravely sailed through.  Once they came through, they stepped onto sandy beach.  The place they decided to approach at was a terrific spot.  There was an amazing landscape that the men that had been aboard were in awe of such beauty.  Every person there knew this would be the place--the perfect place for what they were looking for.
