The Wildlife at Mattamuskeet Lake

17/12/2008 15:30
Many birds made their home at the lake behind the town of Pameioc--as they do now.  Snowy egrets and herons are just two of the many examples of wildlife found at the great lake.  Tundra Swans, Canada and Snow Geese, Pintails, Black ducks, and Mallards are seen on the lake, and many species of Waterfowl are also spotted there now, as well as earlier on, too.
All day long, Secotan people could be seen in their huge canoes that could reach up to thirty-five feet long, paddling around the lake.  They could just be doing it for fun, or fishing, or something else.
Alligtaors and many fish were also found in the waters of the lake which covered about 120,000 acres.
Did they not know what was coming to their people?
