White's Plan

    Instead of an interst in a fort on Roanoke Island, John White wanted to create a colony far away from the turmoil of London.  It would be very peaceful and especially distanced from Ralph Lane and his rampage.  Raleigh funded this project as he approved.  He also gave him ships to use to get there.  White would be governor of the colonists. 

    He took along with him his family as well as his closest friends.  Also, instead of going to Roanoke, he intended to go to Chesapeake Bay.  He wanted to call the town City of Raleigh.
