Will White Learn the Truth About the Colonists?

White was aboard the Hopewell  which had just left Plymouth Harbor.  He must have been overwhelmned.  There was definitely the chance that all of the colonists were dead and he was no closer to rescuing them than he was three years ago.  All he was doing now was confining himself to the same fate they had all had.  He was in no way helping them.  He had no supplies and no way of bringing them home.  He had failed in his attempt to save them and now what was he going to do?

Another thing was that the ships who had took him with them were in no hurry at all to reach the Caribbean.  They had loads of time on their hands as the treasure ships would not be present until June.  The ships that had brought him along had not a care in the world about White's colonists.  All they were interested in was the treasure they would come by once the Spanish treausure fleet came into view.

They found thier first bait--they captured it successfully except for the one sailor that escaped.  He informed Puerto Rico's governor about the incident and of John White.  The governor recognized that and remembered the story of Darby Glande and John White.  Spain had tried to find Roanoke, but it was just too well hidden.  Now he knew that White was heading to the same colony--that he did know where it was.  What was his plan?

Now that Spain was alerted once more, they had to hurry fast to get to Roanoke first.  However, the treasure ship had not yet appeared.  Now there were also reports about pirates because of the many ships they were attacking and chasing.  They were just waiting--waiting for the main catch.  Then, they saw it finally and moved in.  They succeded and the Spanish stepped up their activity.  They wanted to locate Roanoke and remove the threat--although they didn't know that it no longer was a threat...

August 1st and the first sign of Roanoke came into view.  White could see the beach and nothing else.  The island looked deserted.  But, he was back!  Finally after all that time he would get proof, seeing if they had survived.  Even if they didn't, he would now know and it would stop bothereing him for not even knowing what happened...

All that was seen were these little birds along the beach--sandpipers.        www.birddigiscoping.com/sol04.jpg
